Arriving from Austria in 1924, Carl Peckler, a talented and enterprising baker, settled in Brooklyn, NY to begin making old-world baking ingredients for a new-world market. Working in small batches, using only the finest ingredients available, he lovingly prepared his almond paste, marzipan, fruit fillings and flavorful spreads. The business he founded was American Almond. Today, after more than 90 years, the company retains that same entrepreneurial sprit that Carl has back in his day.
In June 2015, American Almond was acquired by Barry Callebaut, the heart and the engine of the global chocolate and cocoa industry. American Almond brand Almond Paste is prepared from select grades of almonds grown in California. After blanching to remove the skins, the almonds are ground and then cooked with pure granulated cane sugar to a semi–fi rm smooth paste.
